Convicted child molester re-offends

A convicted paedophile who was previously jailed for molesting a five year old boy has been put behind bars again after he was caught grooming a schoolboy for sex

Michael Naughton, began grooming online what he believed to be a 15-year-old boy.

When Naughton arranged a meeting at Parklane, Sunderland with the boy for full penetrative sex and sexual activities, he was met by members of the online child protection team Guardians of the North

After a short conversation, which the team outlined that he had in fact been talking to their decoy, they contacted the police who arrived shortly after and arrested Naughton

The pervert pleaded not guilty in court. However, it took the jury just 25 minutes to convict him of grooming a child aged under 16 for sexual activity

The judge sentenced him to two years imprisonment

He was handed a 10 year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and was told trhat he must register as a sex offender for a further 10 years

Pervert jailed for assault on boy, 5

A pervert who molested a five-year-old boy has been jailed for 16 months.

Michael Naughton sexually assaulted the youngster in Washington.

Newcastle Crown Court heard the attack had a devastating impact on the boy.

Jailing him, Judge Paul Sloan QC said: “Your actions had a prolonged effect on him.

“He has been introverted, quieter than usual and is easily upset.

“The injured party was particularly young and vulnerable.”

Naughton 27, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to sexual assault after the attack in 2011.

As well as the 16 month jail term, he must sign the sex offender register for 10 years, was made subject to a sexual offences prevention order and was barred from working with children or vulnerable adults.

Brian Hegarty, defending, said Naughton, who has no previous convictions, had tried to kill himself.

Mr Hegarty added: “He has lost his liberty and his job.”
