Sex abuser jailed for seven years at Londonderry Court
A convicted sex offender who sexually abused three young girls over a 13 year period has been jailed for seven years at Londonderry Crown Court.
John Bradley, a retired builder, from Mettican Road in Garvagh was found guilty in October of 22 charges including one of attempted rape.
Bradley was also placed on the sex offenders register for life.
He has also been subjected to the terms of a sexual offenders prevention order for life.
The abuse started in 1981 when the victims were all at primary school
Jailing him, Judge Piers Grant, said Bradley had carried out his “foul and wicked abuse for his own sexual gratification.”
He said Bradley’s three victims now suffered from depression, feelings of shame, and were concerned for their safety of their own children.
Judge Grant Bradley was a high risk offender who had yet to show any remorse for his actions.
Judge Grant added: “It is now time for others to recognise the wickedness of what you did and for them to move now to help the victims get over what you did to them.”
Former Garvagh builder convicted of sexual offences against children
A 58 yr old man has appeared at Derry crown court where he was convicted of a total of 22 sexual offences against children
John Bradley admitted 16 separate counts of indecent assaults on children, five further charges of gross indecency with a child and a further charge of attempted rape against a child
It emerged during his court appearance on Friday that each of the defendants three victims had requested that a publicity order be removed so that Bradley could then be identified
The court was told that Bradley committed the offence of the attempted rape and ten further accounts against one girl between January 1981 and December 1987, when she was aged between just 7 and 12 years old
He was convicted of a further five charges of gross indecency against the same victim
Bradley also admitted a further three charges of indecent assault against another complainant between October 1989 and December 1992, when she was aged between seven and ten years old
He was also convicted of indecency assaulting another girl between January 1990 and December 1994, when she was aged between just four and eight years old
Judge Piers Grant told the court that an aggravating factor had been the prolonged nature of the abuse, particularly against the first victim
He added that there had also been a breach of trust as some of the offences had taken place while he was staying at the defendants house, while the majority of the offences took place in his car
A defence solicitor described his client, of Mettican road, Garvagh as a industrious man, having retired from the building trade to take care of his ill uncle
He added, for a man of his background and age, a period of custody will be a hard and onerous experience
Bradley wil be sentenced for the offences later this week
