WOMAN ADMITS SEX ASSAULTS

A WOMAN twice held a young boy’s hands behind his back and indecently assaulted him.

The abuse took place on visits to the woman’s home and came to light when he became distressed at the prospect of visiting her again, Warrington Crown Court was told. Lorraine Edge, 36, of Kingshead Close, Runcorn, admitted two charges of indecent assault and was placed on probation for two years.

She was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years.

Lewis Jones, prosecuting, said the offences took place between September last year and March this year.

The woman held the boy’s hand s behind his back and indecently assaulted him.

Police were called and Edge admitted the assaults, but said they were in retaliation to his tickling and slapping her bottom.

Simon Berkson, defeding, said Edge was not the most intelligent of people.

It was not persistent abuse and the two offences occurred some time apart.

She had never been in trouble before and her family stood by her.

Both offences occurred after the birth of her daughter, who had undergone hospital treatment of being underweight and Social Services had regular contact with the family as regards the child’s care.

Judge Philip Hughes told Edge: “It’s obvious this little boy was distressed by this.

“Quite how much is, at this stage, impossible for me to know.

“But you have serious problems as regards your inadequacy to care for your own child so I am giving you a special chance.”
