Man jailed for 14 years for sexually abusing young girl
A man has been jailed for 14 years for sexually abusing a young girl.
Wayne Anthony Parkes, aged 31, Fladbury Close, Redditch, was convicted of nine offences of sexual activity with a child, and one of child cruelty following a trial at Worcester crown court in May. He was sentenced by Judge Toby Hooper on Thursday, June 16. today The offences took place between 2008 and 2010. The teenage victim was known to Parkes.
The cruelty charge relates to injecting the girl with heroin against her will to subdue her so he could have sex with her
DC Samantha Pengelly of West Mercia Police said: “Parkes has received a substantial sentence which reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed against this young girl.
“He was in a position of trust yet over a sustained period of several years he put this child through the most terrible ordeal.
“She had the courage to come forward and it is thanks to the bravery of victims like her that the people who commit these despicable offences are identified and brought to justice.
“While his victim will never forget the sickening abuse she suffered and the ordeal of having to give evidence at court, she has now started a new life in another part of the country, and we hope the sentence will give her some peace of mind.
“As well as clearly being a danger to young girls, Parkes is a prolific offender with a long record of burglary and theft to fund his drug habit, and we hope the wider Redditch community will be reassured by the lengthy sentence imposed.”
