A man has been jailed after carrying out a string of historic sex offences.
A Somerset man has today been handed a 13 year prison sentence after being found guilty of a string of historical sexual abuse against a young girl.
Keith Porter, 51 and of Templecombe, Somerset, was unanimously convicted of 28 offences including indecent assault on a girl under 13, gross indecency with child under 14 and making indecent images and films, by a jury at Taunton Crown Court in August of this year.
Porter was arrested in July 2010 when a young woman disclosed to police that she had been sexually abused by him for a period of around 10 years. He is now required to sign the sex offenders register for life.
Police acted swiftly and seized his computer equipment from his home. Following meticulous investigation by the High Tech Crime team it was discovered that he had 50,000 images of child sexual abuse on his machine. Thousands had been deleted but recovered by experts.
Detective Constable Emma Mason was praised by the judge for her work and said after sentencing: “The sentence passed today on Keith Porter is a reflection of the hideous crimes he committed against a young and vulnerable child over a number of years.
“He abused his position in the home to manipulate a young girl who could not understand what was happening to her.”
