Man jailed for girl sex assaults
A man who carried out sex assaults on four young girls in Darlington has been jailed for five-and-a-half years.
Teesside Crown Court heard Edwin Wheeldon, 53, of Langdale Road, Crawley, Sussex, carried out dozens of assaults on the girls, aged six to 13.
Wheeldon pleaded guilty to six indecent assaults, six of indecency with a child and one of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
He also pleaded guilty to two sexual assaults on a child under 13.
The judge told him he had ruined the life of one of the girls, who were all particularly vulnerable.
Wheeldon, who was visiting Darlington from the south of England, was jailed for five-and-a-half years and put on extended licence on his release for two years.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was banned for life from living with or working with children.
