Former sailor jailed for indecency
A man who served in the Royal Navy for 24 years with an exemplary record, has been jailed for indecently assaulting a nine-year-old boy.
Trevor Mulcahy, 51, of Catton View Court, was sentenced to 12 months, at Norwich Crown Court on Friday.
Mulcahy, who has alway denied the charge, was found guilty by a jury at Norwich Crown Court earlier this year.
John Farmer, prosecuting, said the offence happened while he was baby-sitting the child and was worse for drink.
Kevin Clarke, for the defence, said Mulcahy had never done anything like it before and was mourning the loss of his son and his mother who had both died recently.
Sentencing Mulcahy to 12 months in jail, Judge Simon Barham said he had taken into account the recent bereavements, but the offence was so serious only custody was appropriate.
Mulcahy will be put on the Sex Offenders Register for the next ten years
