Evil Plymouth paedophile who raped a little girl five times is locked up

A depraved paedophile from Plymouth who raped a little girl five times has been locked up.

Richard Holt, 56, was jailed for 20 years with a five-year extended licence and banned from any future contact with children when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court.

Holt groomed and raped a nine-year-old girl, leaving the child with serious psychological damage.

Police have praised her bravery and said sex offenders will be brought to justice.

Holt told his victim she was his special girl and not tell anyone. She remained silent for a decade but in the meantime Holt was jailed after being caught with 60,000 child abuse images.

After his release from jail he contacted the victim again, claiming he wanted to apologise, but she was so upset she went to the police.

Holt, aged 56, now of Connaught Avenue, Plymouth but formerly from Torbay, admitted five offences of child rape, four of assault by penetration, sexual assault, inciting a child to sexual activity, sexual activity in the presence of a child, two of causing a child to look at sexual images, and breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).

Judge Erik Salomonsen told him: “This was appalling and remorseless abuse of a defenceless child in which there was nothing in which you did not attempt.”

Man jailed for 20 years for raping girl, 9, almost daily

A Devon man has been jailed for grooming and raping a nine-year-old girl.

Already convicted paedophile Richard Holt left the child with serious psychological damage which have led to her making two suicide attempts and being sectioned by police for her own protection.

He groomed the victim with gifts and by showing her videos which showed adults having sex with children.

The abuse started with kissing but gradually moved on through the use of sex toys until he was raping her on an almost daily basis, Exeter Crown Court was told.

He told her she was his special girl and told her not tell anyone. She remained silent for a decade but in the meantime Holt was jailed in 2010 after being caught with 60,000 child abuse images.

After his release from jail he contacted the victim again, claiming he wanted to apologise, but she was so upset she went to the police.

Holt, aged 56, of Connaught Avenue, Plymouth, admitted five offences of child rape, four of assault by penetration, sexual assault, inciting a child to sexual activity, sexual activity in the presence of a child, two of causing a child to look at sexual images, and breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).

He was jailed for a total of 20 years with a five year extended licence by Judge Erik Salomonsen, who ordered him to sign on the sex offenders’ register for life and imposed a new Sexual Harm Prevention Order which bans any future contact with children.

He told him: “These were systematic and abhorrent sexual offences against a child which reflect your grooming which started by causing the child to watch pornography involving adults and children and proceeded to sexual activity.

“You committed a litany of offences. I have read the victim’s personal statement. She has been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. She suffers constant flashbacks and panic attacks. She feels she has to rebuild her life and fight her demons every day. No-one reading it can have anything other than the sympathy for her and the greatest abhorrence at your conduct.

“This was appalling and remorseless abuse of a defenceless child in which there was nothing in which you did not attempt.”

He said the abuse has had a very profound effect on the victim, who has attempted suicide twice and needed in patient treatment under the Mental Health Act.

He said:”He manipulated her mentally and caused her to comply with his perverted desires as well as manipulating her physically. He groomed her and convinced her it was normal and appropriate activity. He used her physically as a sex object to satisfy his depraved sexual needs in numerous ways.

Paedophile convicted of raping girl, 10, a decade ago after contacting victim on Facebook

A convicted paedophile is facing a long jail sentence after he admitted raping a child more than a decade ago.

Richard Holt is to be assessed to determine if he is a danger to children after he admitted 15 offences including breaking an order which was designed to restrict his contact with children.

He has previously served a five year sentence for possessing up to 60,000 child abuse images, some of which he distributed to fellow paedophiles.

Holt, aged 56, of Connaught Avenue, Plymouth, admitted offences including child rape, sexual assault, inciting a child to sexual activity, sexual activity in the presence of a child, causing a child to look at sexual images, and breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).

The rapes and sexual assaults all took place against the same girl when she was aged about 10 and happened five years before Holt was jailed in 2010. They only came to light when he tried to make contact with her on Facebook after his release.

The approach rekindled memories which the girl, now an adult, had kept secret for more than a decade and she went to the police to disclose the abuse she suffered at Holt’s hands.

The Facebook contact was also in breach of the SOPO imposed when he was jailed at Exeter in 2010.

Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC, remanded Holt in custody and adjourned sentence at Exeter Crown Court until next month to allow the probation service to provide an assessment of what danger Holt poses to children in the future.

He told Holt:”There will clearly be a very substantial prison sentence. The report will address dangerousness.

“You have pleaded guilty to very serious criminal offences and you will have credit for entering your pleas at the first opportunity.”

Holt, previously of Torquay, was jailed by Judge Graham Cottle in September 2010 after he admitted 11 counts of possessing and distributing indecent images of children.

A police officer who dealt with the case said images were among the worst he had seen and included images of babies suffering serious abuse.

Letters from children and children’s underwear were also recovered from his home in Paignton after he was trapped by a police sting in which an officer posed as a child on an internet chat site.

Devon man jailed for possessing 37,000 indecent images

A Paignton man has been jailed for five years for possessing nearly 40,000 indecent images of children.

Richard Alistair Holt, 50, of Torquay Road, admitted one charge of possessing an indecent photo of a child, covering 37,000 images, Exeter Crown Court said.

At an earlier magistrates hearing, he admitted five counts of distributing indecent photographs of a child and five of making indecent photographs.

He was sentenced at Exeter Crown Court, minus 30 days for time on remand.

Richard Holt, 50, was caught in an undercover sting as he used on-line chat rooms to talk about child sex and distribute the depraved images

Unknown to Holt one of the people he was in contact with was an undercover policeman.

Within days the officer became so concerned about Holt’s conversation and the possibility that he could go beyond the chat rooms and interfere with children directly that police raided his home in Torquay Road, Alex Allsop, prosecuting, told the court.

Police seized a laptop computer and an external hard drive –— where they found more than 60,000 indecent images and movies involving children.

The images ranged from Level One to Level Five in seriousness — with Level Five being the most depraved.

“This man was involved in the wholesale acquisition of indecent videos and images of very young children,” said Mr Allsop.

The images involved boys and girls as young as two.

“They included the most extreme and most depraved images and movies of young children,” Mr Allsop explained.

Police also found letters and pictures in the flat which appeared to have been written and drawn by young children. They indicated that he had access to young children, said Mr Allsop.

“The letters suggested that he had met them,” said Mr Allsop. “Combined with the conversations in the on-line chat rooms there was real reason to believe that he would go out into the real world.”

Police also discovered seven articles of girl’s underwear for children aged seven, eight, nine and ten which, Mr Allsop said, Holt had refused to talk about to police.

Grey-haired Holt, wearing a striped sweatshirt, appeared in court on Saturday where he admitted five charges of making indecent images of a child between January 1 and August 6 this year, five more of distributing indecent images of children between the same dates, and one of possessing indecent images with intent to distribute them.

Mr Allsop said the undercover police officer had been talking to Holt in chat rooms for a few days and that Holt had begun sending the officer indecent images.

Officers armed with a warrant, raided his home and arrested him on Thursday after he began telling the officer that he knew a child that he had access to.
